Specialist Joinery Group worked in conjunction with Brendan Duffy Construction, to produce a first class public amenity. This project has not only contributed to local public amenities, but appealed to the wider community, by encouraging patrons to mix socially at the juice bar and members bar. Our experience of leisure centre applications has given us first hand knowledge of how materials perform in different environments. This has led to Specialist Joinery Group, taking the role as trusted advisor to the Architect on projects of this nature, through specifying materials and advising on product life cycle costs. Our knowledge and ability to advise our clients, has led to Specialist Joinery Group being recognized as a key player in the bespoke joinery and fitted furniture market.
Complexities
We interacted with the design team at an early stage to utilize our expertise and experience in terms of project layout and buildability. This working style encouraged open lines of communication between project stakeholders. The Architect’s design for the juice bar was rather conceptual, having a spherical canopy incorporated into the suspended ceiling. Our designer worked tirelessly to ensure our design had the required structural integrity and met with relevant safety standards. To install the canopy, specialist lifting equipment was brought in to assist our installers. Specialist joinery group, took proactive steps in coordinating out of hours installation of our products. This meant that our joinery was not disturbed or damaged by other trades. It was also not feasible to have other trades working in the same areas, as Specialist Joinery Group installed the canopy for the juice bar overhead.
Key Achievements
We carried out our subcontract works in the evening time to ensure that other trades who were working in the area did not disturb our installation.
The spherical design of the juice bar, required accurate on site measurements to ensure that the canopy manufactured in our production facilities, fitted onsite. We also had to use 2 mechanical lifts to help in the installation of the canopy.
The design team working on the project, we highly experience in leisure centres, however lacked some experience in the integrating services in the public bar and juice bar. We were able to use our experience gained in the hospitality sector to advise the design team on a consultative basis.
