University of Ulster, SAAD Centre

Specialist Joinery Group were commissioned by the University of Ulster to undertake extensive refurbishment of the Science labs at the SAAD Centre for Pharmacology & Diabetes. This project was delivered as a summer works scheme carried out in 2 months, therefore programming of the work was of principal importance.

We interacted with the design team at an early stage to utilize our expertise and experience in terms of project layout and buildability. This working style encouraged open lines of communication between project stakeholders. Our discussions particularly focused upon coordinating our fit out with the M&E Installations (gas, water & electric.)

To ensure future proofing of design, we encouraged the client’s architect to install 25% of the units with manual height adjustability, to cater for possible updates in DDA Requirements. Although there was a cost premium attached to this, it was decided that it was better to proceed than have to retrofit units to provide future capacity.

This project was delivered as a summer works scheme carried out in 2 months, therefore programming of the work was of principal importance. Delivered on time and budget and to a quality standard that exceeded client expectations.
