Everyman Theatre wins RIBA Stirling Prize


Fighting off stiff competition from 5 other iconic pieces of architecture, Everyman Theatre, Liverpool proudly claimed the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize for the best new building. This prize is the most prestigious honour awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects. A fine of example of sustainable construction the award gives environmentally conscious architects Haworth Thompkins much to celebrate.

The award is also being celebrated closer to home. The Liverpool project was successfully delivered by Northern Ireland based Contractors Gilbert Ash, who already have a number of award winning theatre schemes under their belt which includes The Lyric Theatre Belfast  and Grand Opera House .

As Specialist Sub Contractors to Gilbert Ash for a considerable number of years, Specialist Joinery Group are equally delighted with the news as the group made a substantial contribution to the internal furniture fit out of the build. Speaking about the firms involvement in the project Group Managing Director John Bosco O’Hagan said “We were challenged by the Construction Team to provide sustainable material options for our furniture fit out. Maghera company make grand entrance for Titanic Hotel, Liverpool

This week marks the official opening of the new Titanic Hotel, Liverpool. The sister development of Titanic Visitor Centre, Belfast also has a replica version of the Titanic’s grand staircase that will have visitors queuing up for photo opportunities.

Maghera based Specialist Joinery Group delivered a substantial fit out package at the £36m pound regeneration project which included the grand staircase.

Speaking about their involvement in this prestige project Specialist Joinery Group Managing Director John Bosco O’Hagan said “This unique 4* hotel will attract a global audience captivated by the Titanic story. After delivering a multi-million pound joinery package at the Titanic Visitor Centre Belfast in 2012, we are delighted to showcase our skills at the latest Titanic attraction in Liverpool.”

The construction of the magnificent sweeping staircase occupied a team of master craftsmen in the workshop for a staggering 3 months.  It is an exemplary piece of traditional joinery work, designed and manufactured using the latest in 3D imaging and CNC Technologies for efficiency and accuracy.

Kingspan Stadium Completed

Last week the Ravenhill stadium was renamed Kingspan Stadium following a significant deal with Irish manufacturer- Kingspan.

John Bosco O’Hagan, the delighted Managing Director of Specialist Joinery Group, is proud of the company’s work at the new £15million Stadium. “It is a triumph for all involved,” he said. “We are intensely proud of our work at Kingspan Stadium Ravenhill, which has given us the opportunity to work with Ulster Rugby, Hamilton Architects and Gilbert-Ash.“

The Maghera-based company’s work at the prestige stadium involved the supply and installation of bars and fitted furniture to hospitality, function areas, media rooms and coaching spaces.

John, an avid rugby fan, hastened to add, “The newly installed trophy cabinet is also a Specialist Joinery Group product. We trust that Ulster Rugby will take immense pride in filling it with silverware from many victories over the coming seasons.”

Glazing Solutions for Contract Interiors
