Fighting off stiff competition from 5 other iconic pieces of architecture, Everyman Theatre, Liverpool proudly claimed the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize for the best new building. This prize is the most prestigious honour awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects. A fine of example of sustainable construction the award gives environmentally conscious architects Haworth Thompkins much to celebrate.
The award is also being celebrated closer to home. The Liverpool project was successfully delivered by Northern Ireland based Contractors Gilbert Ash, who already have a number of award winning theatre schemes under their belt which includes The Lyric Theatre Belfast and Grand Opera House .
As Specialist Sub Contractors to Gilbert Ash for a considerable number of years, Specialist Joinery Group are equally delighted with the news as the group made a substantial contribution to the internal furniture fit out of the build. Speaking about the firms involvement in the project Group Managing Director John Bosco O’Hagan said “We were challenged by the Construction Team to provide sustainable material options for our furniture fit out.
