The joinery fit-out of Dublin Airport Terminal 2 involved the provision of Timber Veneer Curved Fire Rated Wall Paneling and supporting studwork.
This required a custom designed & built system to accommodate all the specific client requirements necessary in airport construction. The design took into consideration security issues, maximum sturdiness, maintenance access and stringent building regulations.
The combination of straight and curved panels, mounted at high level, are finished in Ash Veneer in the Main Terminal Building Hall and in Walnut Veneer in the Check-In building.
The organic compound curved wall to the arrivals corridor in the Pier E Security Hall are finished in Cherry with Specialist Joinery also providing the stainless steel due to the complexity of the shape.
The stainless steel, aligned with panel joints, includes skirting, horizontal bumper & head trim, door frame trims, concealed entry system panels, expansion joints and vertical trim to corners and roller shutters.
The overall homogenized design effect of the myriad of elements was achieved through close co-ordination and precise alignment with related architectural features such as joint lines in flooring, glazed walling, a/c louvres, advertising displays & internal windows. This involved close planning around and incorporation of a high degree of mechanical and electrical services such as security entry systems, information monitors, lighting, defibrillator equipment & air conditioning duct grilles.
The practicalities of manufacturing, storing, delivering and installing the high quantity of complex paneling whilst maintaining the highest quality, is made possible by continuous investment in CNC machinery, specialist tooling, logistics resources & facilities and the ongoing training & retention of Specialist Joinery operatives.
